Is it possible to mix equipment in physical combinations, so some things are flexible, while others are fixed?

Yes, it is possible.

In the Default content tab of your physical combination, you have the “Reserved from Stock” feature that helps you manage how the content of a physical combination behaves when planned on a project. You can learn more about it here.

Actual content does not seem to be linked to stock. I can add whatever I want to it, regardless of what my stock level says.
