In Rentman, only the Serial Number column is currently used to identify and select their equipment during the project and warehouse process. In real life scenarios, warehouse workers or planners like yourself could be using other identifiers such as Internal Reference and QR Code to keep track of these equipment.
To tackle this discrepancy and to better help you identify your equipment, Rentman will be making the column of Internal Reference as the default identifier and also renaming the column Serial Number to Manufacturer Serial Number.
In addition to these changes, you will also be given the opportunity to reorder or swap columns to ensure the correct data is in the right place.
Please make your decision before March 12th, 2025!
What is changing?
Old Column Name | New Column Name | Description | Example |

What do I need to do to prepare for this update?
To prepare for this important update, all Power Users with equipment editing permission should see this temporary pop up after clicking on the red "Adjust display serial numbers" button on your task bar.
Each Power User can make a selection, but only one decision is allowed per workspace. This affects the entire workspace so ensure you communicate this to your team! Please make your decision before March 12th, 2025!
Make your decision before the end date and all the changes will happen automatically according to your decisions.
What are my options?
When the button is selected, you are now faced with three options you can choose from.
- Keep your data as is: No changes to your workspace will be made. All columns will stay the way they currently are.
- Swap the data: Swap your Internal Reference column data with the Serial Numbers column data (Manufacturer Serial Number).
- Custom: Decide which column data you want to fill in for Internal Reference and Serial Number Column (Manufacturer Serial Number).
Take into consideration how easily the equipment can be identified and what your current workflow is.
Why is this change happening?
Currently, only the Serial Number (Manufacturer Serial Number) column is being displayed when identifying a specific equipment when assigning and scanning in Rentman.
That can be very limiting and confusing for companies where their established workflow uses Internal Reference or even QR Code to identify their equipment.
With this change, we have corrected the way Serial Number (Manufacturer Serial Number) and Internal Reference is represented in Rentman. It now reflects what is more commonly practiced in real life scenarios.
During the scanning process in the warehouse, you are still required to scan the QR Code
