This article explains how to add equipment in Rentman and helps you choose the right setup based on how your equipment is used, tracked, and managed.
In Rentman, equipment represents everything you rent out or sell to customers, such as microphones, lights, flight cases, cables, or consumables.
When creating equipment, you define:
- Whether it is rented or sold;
- Whether it is a single item or a combination of items;
- How stock is tracked (serialized or in bulk).
This setup determines how the equipment behaves in planning, warehouse workflows, and projects.
Go to the Equipment module and click on +Add equipment in the upper-right corner. You will be presented with the equipment creation screen:

Step 1: General information
Start by filling in the basic details of your equipment.
| Name | The name of the equipment, visible during planning and in the warehouse. |
| Rental price | The price your customer pays per day to rent this item. |
| Quantity | The number of items you own at the selected stock location. |
| Stock location | Select where the equipment is stored. Rentman supports two types of stock locations: - Warehouses - Stock locations |
Step 2: Do you rent or sell this equipment?
Next, define how the equipment is used.

Step 4: How will stock be tracked?
Finally, choose how Rentman should track this equipment.
| Bulk items | Bulk items are not tracked individually. Use this for items you cannot or do not want to serialize. |

Serialized equipment is tracked individually using unique serial numbers and QR codes. Use this for high-value items where individual tracking is important. |

You might own multiple units of the same model, but still need to track each one separately. |
