This article explains how to set up a Zebra handheld scanner for RFID scanning with the Rentman app. It is intended for warehouse managers and crew members setting up RFID for the first time.
Requirements
RFID in Rentman is only supported on the Zebra scanners sold via Geartracking.com. To read RFID tags, the scanner is used together with the Zebra RFD4030 RFID Reader.

You also need:
- The Rentman app, available for Android in the Google Play Store.
- The 123RFID app, used to configure the RFD4030 reader.
- A Rentman license with the Inventory and Equipment Tracking add-ons.
Setting up the device for the first time
- Charge the device fully before first use. You can charge via USB-C or charging cradle.
- Power on the device and complete the initial Android setup.
- Connect the device to your Wi-Fi network.
Installing the Rentman app
- Open the Google Play Store on the device.
- Search for Rentman and install the Rentman app.
- Open the app and log in with your Rentman credentials.
- Grant all the requested permissions. These include permission to connect to other devices and to use the camera.
Installing 123RFID
123RFID is Zebra's configuration app for the RFD4030 RFID sled. It is used to set up and manage the connection between the sled and the device.
- Open the Google Play Store on the device.
- Search for 123RFID and install the app.
- Attach the RFD4030 reader to the scanner.
Attaching and pairing the RFD4030 sled
- Remove the placeholder plate on the RFD4030.
- Attach the new adapter plate to the device with the front first.
- Insert the four screws and tighten in an "X" pattern. These can be hand tight. We do not recommend the use of power tools for this.
- Slide the Zebra scanner into the RFD4030 sled until it clicks into place.
- Verify that the RFID connection is active in the 123RFID app.
Activating the RFD4030
- Open the 123RFID app.
- Once connected, follow the activation steps in the app.
- Select the region you are in.
- Click Next.
- Check the boxes to determine scanning range.
- Save and close the app.
Testing the setup
- Open the Rentman app and navigate to the Warehouse module and open any project.
- Hold a linked RFID tag near the scanner and pull the top trigger on the RFD4030. The RFID scanning module opens automatically.
- Check that the tag is read and that the correct item appears in the app.
If nothing is scanned, check that the sled is charged and properly attached.
