In this article, we will highlight the return process for serialized physical combinations. We go through how to best return your unsealed combinations and ensure they are completed and ready to go for your next project.
Scenario
If you weren't following along in our other article, take a look at our warehouse process best practices here.
Flight case 01 and 02 are now currently on the on location status, with 4 lamps as content each. To mimic what happens in real life, lamps will most likely be taken out of their flight cases by crew to be used on location.
When the event is over and the individual serialized lamps need to be returned to their designated flight case combination, we need to verify the serialized lamp that is assigned to serialized flight case. Ensuring the combinations are correctly packed before sealing and returning.
How can we do that?
Return Process
To imitate real life scenarios at an event location, in Rentman you can empty all combinations at once so the lamps can be used. Nothing will get booked and all actual contents will get removed from the flight cases and put on a separate list.
After emptying the combinations, notice the lamps are listed outside of the combination with a total of 8 while staying on the same status. This means the lamps are now out of the combination and can be freely used in the event.
By now, the event is over and you are packing your equipment back up. We can now tell Rentman which lamp belongs to which specific flight case. To do so we start with flight case 01.
By scanning the flight case QR code, it will open in edit mode and just like in the previous warehouse article, we can scan or select + icon to add the appropriate lamp to flight case 01. Based on the default contents, the flight case will get the label complete, incomplete or extra.
Once complete, we can close (scan the combination QR code again) and seal the combination. We double check the contents just in case and when satisfied, we scan the combination to the returned status. By returning the combination to the returned status, whatever the contents inside the combination will stay with the combination till removed.
We will repeat these steps for all combinations.
Though this process can be tedious at first, it is a very powerful way to ensure your flight cases are complete with the correct serialized content when returning. If done correctly, there is no need to check the contents when the flight case leaves for the next project.
We also recommend using physical seals in your warehouse to indicate a combination is complete to prevent crew from doing double work!
