Rentman now offers an MCP (Model Context Protocol) integration, currently available as a public beta.
MCP is an open standard that lets AI assistants like Claude, ChatGPT, and other compatible clients connect directly to Rentman, so you can interact with your data using natural language instead of working with the API directly.
MCP (Model Context Protocol) is an open standard that allows AI assistants to connect to external tools, databases, and APIs.
You can think of it as a bridge between the AI assistant and Rentman: instead of manually calling endpoints and interpreting the results, the AI does it for you - understanding your request, executing the right API calls, and returning answers in plain language.
AI is still a new technology, and it isn’t perfect. It can misunderstand a question, give an answer that sounds confident but isn’t quite right, or invent details that don’t exist. The MCP beta will save you real time, but it’s not a tool to use blindly. Review the guidelines for using the MCP to get the most out of it.
What you can do with the Rentman MCP
With the MCP connected, you can:
- Query your Rentman data conversationally, without needing to know the API.
- Speed up routine workflows by letting the AI chain multiple actions together to answer more complex questions.
- Reduce reliance on developers or technical staff for data lookups and everyday updates.
- Use it from any AI client that supports MCP and not just developer or command-line tools.
Use cases
The table below shows typical workflows where the MCP can save a few steps, along with a sample prompt you could send to your AI client.
| Workflow | Example prompt |
|---|---|
|
Add a new contact when a lead comes in Capture company and contact details in one go, without opening the contact form. |
"Add a new company 'Northbound Studio' in Rotterdam with email contact@northbound.io, and link Lena Visser as the main contact person with the role Production Lead." |
|
Review and create project requests Get a quick overview of incoming requests and log a new one directly from the conversation. |
"List the open project requests from the last 30 days, and create a new request for Northbound Studio for a product launch in Utrecht from 8–10 September 2026." |
|
Monitor stock levels and movements Get a real-time view of inventory and trace recent transfers between locations. |
"How many line array tops do we have in stock, and where have they moved between warehouses over the past two weeks?" |
|
Plan crew assignments See who's planned on a project and add new crew functions on the fly. |
"Show the crew functions assigned to 'Autumn Conference 2026' and add a Lighting Operator role for the build day." |
|
Reconcile costs against registered hours Cross-reference time registrations with project costs and adjust budget lines when actuals shift. |
"Compare the registered hours on 'Spring Gala 2026' with its current cost lines, and update cost line 789 to €1,450." |
Requirements
Before you can connect the Rentman MCP, make sure you have:
Please note, that some workflows require specific Rentman add-ons.
For example, working with quotations is only available if the Quoting and invoicing add-on is enabled for your account. Before using the MCP for license-specific actions, make sure the relevant add-on is active.
How to connect the MCP to your AI tool
Before you can connect to an AI tool, an Account admin needs to enable the MCP permission for the relevant user role in Rentman. Once that’s done, you can copy the MCP connection link from your workspace and paste it into your AI client.
Follow these steps in your Rentman workspace:
- Go to Configuration module > User Roles.
- Select the user role and then click editEdit.
- Scroll down to the Configuration permissions section and select the checkbox next to 'Access for AI assistant via MCP'.
- Save your changes.
- Refresh the page for role changes to take effect.
- With the permission enabled, go to Configuration module > Integrations and scroll down to 'MCP (AI Assistant)'.
- Copy the connection URL and paste it into your AI client, for example, when adding a custom MCP connector in Claude.
Claude.ai and Claude for Desktop
In Claude Desktop, the Rentman MCP can be added as a custom MCP connector:
- Open Claude and go to Customize > Connectors.
- Click the + icon and select Add custom connector.
- Enter a name (for example, Rentman) and paste the connection URL you copied from Rentman.
- Click Add, then Connect.
- Follow the prompts to sign in to your Rentman account (if you’re not already signed in), select your workspace, and authorise access.
- You’re connected. You can now ask Claude about your Rentman data directly from your chat.
When you connect the Rentman MCP to Claude.ai, you control exactly which parts of your Rentman account Claude is allowed to access and how much autonomy Claude has when using each tool. This article explains the permission settings and how to configure them for your workflow.
Once connected, you can start asking Claude to perform Rentman actions directly from your chat.
ChatGPT
ChatGPT supports MCP via Connectors:
- In ChatGPT, select your name in the bottom-left corner, then select Settings.
- Go to Apps, then open Advanced Settings at the bottom of the window.
- Turn on Developer mode if it isn't already on, then select Back.
- In the top-right corner of the modal, select Create app. Enter Rentman as the connector's Name, paste your URL as the MCP Server URL, and OAuth for the Authentication method.
- Select the checkbox next to I understand and want to continue, then select Create.
- If prompted, sign in to your Rentman account, then select Allow to grant ChatGPT permissions.
- In ChatGPT, repeat step 1 to open your settings, then select Apps. Rentman MCP server displays with the options to view additional information, disconnect, and view a list of the available tools.
Other AI clients
Any AI client that supports MCP can connect to Rentman using the same URL. The exact steps for adding a custom MCP vary per client, please refer to your AI client's documentation for adding a custom MCP connector.
Limitations during beta
Because the Rentman MCP is built on top of the current open API, the same scope applies:
- You can do everything the open API supports (e.g. creating a contact).
- You cannot do anything outside the open API (e.g. creating quotations).
As this is a beta release, expect occasional changes and improvements as we refine the experience based on customer feedback.
Join the MCP beta community
The MCP beta is also a conversation starter for what comes next. We're actively gathering feedback to shape API v2 and the future of Rentman's AI.
We're launching a dedicated MCP beta community on our new Rentman community platform - a space to share ideas, ask questions, learn from other beta users, and stay up to date as we evolve the integration.
Whether you want to swap workflow tips, request new endpoints, or simply follow along, the community is the best place to be part of the conversation.
